It Was Exciting to Create a Flower Piece for Putnam-Westchester Women’s Resource Center.

“Now More than Ever, We Need to Petal It Forward”-Society Of American Florists

What is Petal It Forward? Every October, many in the floral industry all over the United States organize a crew to take part in “Petal It Forward”, The Society of American Florist’s (SAF’s) 6-year initiative where participants hand two floral arrangements or bouquets others, urging them to keep one and share the other with someone else as a sign of goodwill.

In support of SAF’s initiative, I was inspired to design a flower piece for the Putnam-Westchester Women’s Resource Center called, “Embracing the Beauty of Transition”. This piece represents people facing a treacherous time and moving from low points in life and starting new beginnings during the Pandemic. It also represents and encourages the spread of peace, unity, tranquility, and happiness.

The Women’s Resource Center supports their clients moving from facing various forms of adversity towards stability. The flowers were delivered to the main office for a few hours and then to another location where it was enjoyed by the Resource Center’s clients.

The flower design included beautiful fall Sunflowers and Hydrangeas. A huge thank you to Ms. Ellenworth and her staff for what they continue to do to help our community.

It Felt so Good to Network in Person Again!

This month I was able to get out for a quick networking breakfast with the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber at The Abbey Inn and Spa in Peekskill, New York. The guest speaker was Westchester County Executive, Geroge Latimer (picture below).

Wow, the Abbey Inn and Spa have a beautiful view overlooking the Hudson River and I wondered to myself why haven’t visited this venue before. I also met the owner and his staff, what nice people they were. I plan to visit again.

Thank you to President, Debbie Malone and the rest of the chamber for holding such a wonderful in-person event.

Sympathy Novelty Piece

We got a call from a client who needed us to design a novelty softball sympathy flower piece for a local softball coach. I was so honored that they trusted us to create such an important piece. After many hours and 100’s of stems, I was able to create this piece below.

In the last couple of weeks, I learned why having #support, #mentors, and #friends in your industry, who are willing to help you unconditionally is very important for #success.

For us, Florist Sympathy Designs are artwork we don’t often get to show due to the sensitivity surrounding the occasion. Most times it’s an artwork that is only seen by the family, #funeraldirector, and the #funeralhome. So please forgive me if this brings any triggers.

Thanksgiving is 29 Days Away

The holidays are approaching us quickly and I cannot wait to smell and taste the different cakes, meats, and pies. The holiday aroma is so comforting for me. I read in the news that there will be a shortage of items in the stores for the holidays. The flower industry was not exempted from that because there is also the shortage of flowers that the floral industry has been dealing with since the Covid -19 pandemic started. If you are interested in ordering flowers for Thanksgiving and the rest of the holidays please put your order in early.

This year we are bringing back our “Thank You Bouquets” everyone loved so much last year and our fall centerpieces for any host to decorate their table/homes. Please place your orders early due to the flower shortage – I want to make sure you can decorate your home for the holidays with one of my custom Floral design pieces specially made for you.

Our Newly Weds Said Yes to the Give Back!

First a shout out and a huge congrats to our newlyweds Lori and Rich. It was such a pleasure to work with them and for them to trust us on their wedding day! We also got to work with Frank and his team at Dramatic Hall, the unique, artistic, and beautiful hall located in Peekskill New York that our bridal couple choose to have their wedding and reception.

So the pumpkins…We have been asking our clients from any of our events to allow us to donate any leftover flowers or plants they do not want to local not-for-profit organizations that make a difference in our community and the lives of others. Lori and Rich allowed us to donate pumpkins to one of the organizations we support the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV). This facility and its staff have been working to keep families together when there is receiving medical treatment since 1974 thanks to Doctor Audrey Evans.

Here is a snippet from the about section of RMHGHV ‘s website: Our 12-bedroom House provides over 200 families per year with overnight accommodations during their child’s medical treatment. Playing a major role in family-centered care by keeping families with critically ill and traumatically injured children close to each other and to the care and resources they need. Though many of our families are from the tri-state area, we have served guests from all over the world. Families have come from as far away as Hong Kong, California, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and beyond!

Our beautiful fall couple Lori and Rich was nice enough to allow us to donate two pumpkins from their wedding RMHGHV for Halloween.

There is a great feeling when you can give back and help your community.

Many blessings on your new path Rich and Lori.
